Exclusive Heel and Arch Pain Treatments Offered by Dr. Vohra

Relief of Heel Pain (Plantar Fasciitis) and Arch Pain

Are you looking for a foot doctor that specializes in heel pain or arch pain? Do you have heel pain that is at the underside and/or at the back of your heel?  Plainfield’s premier podiatrist, Dr. Praveen Vohra, is Chicagoland’s expert in heel pain and arch pain relief. Having published multiple medical articles and literature for treatments for heel and arch pain treatments, he is recognized as one of the nation's primary doctors for heel pain treatments.

Heel Pain on the Bottom of the Foot

Do you have stabbing pains in the heel of your foot?  Does the foot pain progress during the day? Heel pain or arch pain is the most common patient symptom at our offices. Heel pain can be caused by many conditions, but is most common in persons that have an inflammation of the ligament that connects the ball of the foot to the heel, otherwise known as plantar fasciitis. If plantar fasciitis is left untreated, dangerous complications like heel spurs can result.

Foot and arch pain that progresses during the day generally is caused by improper arch support. When the foot arch is not supported, the arch tends to flatten, which stretches the ligament (plantar fascia) excessively, causing pain from the bottom of the foot to the heel. This progressive stretching of the foot ligament often causes inflammation and severe foot pain. If not treated, this condition can cause a spur on the heel of the bone.

Contributing factors of plantar fasciitis can also be from tightness on the calf muscle. Tightening of the calf muscle can be caused by people who do a lot of walking or by women who wear high heeled shoes with inadequate support. Additional causes include excessive weight gain, which can put a lot of pressure on the foot, and from non-supportive or ill-fitting shoes.

Heel Pain Behind the Heel

Inflammation of the Achilles tendon causes pain behind the heel. The Achilles tendon attaches to the heel bone at the back of the foot. People typically experience this type of heel pain due to excessive running or from ill-fitting shoes that press into the heel.  Foot and ankle pain due to Achilles tendon inflammation can interfere with you daily activities, including walking or other exercise. It is most common for athletic middle-aged people to have these symptoms.

The Achilies tendon connects the heel bone to the muscles from the back of your calf muscle.  If this tendon is over stretched, the tendon can tear. If your Achilles tendon ruptures, either partially of completely, you may feel a snap or pop sensation with immediate pain at the back of the ankle. If this happens, you need to see a foot doctor to evaluate the muscle and for treatment recommendations as soon as possible! At Food and Ankle Specialists, nonsurgical treatments are oftentimes possible, however surgery is typically the best options to repair a ruptured tendon.
